Words of Light and Hope from Tony Hawes
Beyond the darkness, there is light.
Beyond the griefs and pains of the moment is the promise of freedom for all.
Beyond our current distress is the dream of a tapestry
through which is woven the rainbow colours of truth, freedom, peace and love.
And in the centre of this tapestry is the Son of God,
who became human to uphold the kingdom of justice and righteousness.
Karl Gaspar, Philippines.
As truly as God is our father, so truly is he our mother.
In our father, God Almighty, we have our being;
in our merciful mother we are remade and restored.
Our fragmented lives are knit together and made perfect.
And by giving and yielding ourselves, through grace,
to the Holy Spirit, we are made whole.
It is I, the strength and goodness of fatherhood.
It is I, the wisdom of motherhood.
It is I, the light and grace of holy love. It is I,
the Trinity, it is I, the unity. I am the sovereign
goodness in all things. It is I who teach you to love.
Julian of Norwich.
And you, Jesus, are you not also like a mother?
Are you not the mother who, like a hen, gathers her chickens under her wings?
Truly, Lord, you are a mother.
Anselm.
Gracious God, thank you for your mothering and
fathering of all creation. All things exist from you;
all people are loved by you; all families are blessed
in you. May our human loving reflect, however
faintly, your boundless, infinite loving, until we all
come, gladly, to our eternal home in Christ our Lord.
Amen.
John Pritchard.
