Words of Light and Hope from Tony Hawes
Words of Light and Hope from Tony Hawes
To you is born this day a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2.11
While all things were in quiet silence,
and night was in the midst of her swift course,
thine Almighty Word, O Lord, leaped down
out of thy royal throne, alleluia.
Christmas Vespers, Western Rite
How silently, how silently,
the wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
the blessings of his heaven.
Phillips Brooks
When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and the princes are home,
when the shepherds are back with their flocks,
the work of Christmas begins:
to find the lost,
to heal the broken,
to feed the hungry,
to release the prisoner,
to rebuild the nations,
to bring peace among the people,
to make music in the heart.
Howard Thurman (Educational Trust)
Holy Child, you come with peace to a broken world.
We see, with you, the sorrow of the world,
torn to pieces by war, greed, fear and prejudice,
those same things that took you from a cradle
to a cross.
Come with the peace that always flows from your
wholeness to our brokenness.
Fill our world with the joyful hope that there is
always a better way.
This Christmas, may the peace of the young
Prince of Peace embrace the world. Amen.
