Eco Church, March 2025

Eco Church

All is not well on our planet, as we know. The seasons are shifting: winters are warmer and warm weather comes ever earlier, upsetting the rhythms of nature. We heard out first Chiffchaff of the year three days earlier than the previous earliest date recorded in 50 years. We photographed a moth resting on our gate on the 9th of the month, which should not be on the wing until May! While the death of one moth without successful breeding will not make much difference to the world, if things get so out of kilter that birds cannot find enough caterpillars and other insects to feed their young, this will reduce the natural pest control that they provide, which will impact gardeners and farmers, which will affect our food chains, etc. We all need to take action to help slow the warming of the planet before it is too late to make a difference. Please go to the World Wide Fund for Nature website and use the lifestyle questionnaire to help you think through how you can make a difference, however small. Put www.footprint.wwf.org.uk into your search engine.
