Words of Light and Hope Jane McLarty LLM

This is the middle Sunday of Fair Trade fortnight, marking 30 years of the Fair Trade movement in the UK. The theme is ‘Be the Change!’

Mahatma Gandhi in Indian Opinion, 1913                                                                                                                                                                  We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the  divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.

Letter to the Hebrews 12:1-2                                                                                                                                                                                   Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2  looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

Simon Armitage Give                                                                                                                                                                                                      Of all the public places, dear to make a scene, I’ve chosen here. Of all the doorways in the world to choose to sleep, I’ve chosen yours. I’m on the street, under the stars. For coppers I can dance or sing. For silver-swallow swords, eat fire. For gold-escape from locks and chains. It’s not as if I’m  holding out for frankincense or myrrh, just change. You give me tea. That’s big of you. I’m on my knees. I beg of you.
